Job platforms for tech jobs in Switzerland

Are you a software developer, digital nomad or expat looking for work opportunities in Switzerland? Are you wondering how to search for tech jobs in this beautiful country located at the heart of Europe? If so, your journey is about to get much easier! We are here to help you navigate through the job platforms available in Switzerland – so you can continue your career without any hassle.

For those interested in technology and software engineering, Switzerland offers a thriving industry with numerous companies, including big players like Google, IBM, and Microsoft. Not only will you have access to exciting projects and cutting-edge innovation, but you'll also benefit from Switzerland's high quality of life and stunning natural scenery.

The number one platform is LinkedIn

Looking to give your professional life a boost? It's time to dust off your profile on the number one platform for job seekers: LinkedIn. This powerhouse of a social media site not only helps job seekers connect with potential employers, but also provides countless networking opportunities and resources to help you land that dream job in Switzerland.

Most good employers go through LinkedIn these days. Either someone writes to you directly or take a look at the job ads on LinkedIn yourself. This should be your starting point to gauge the market, even if maybe you move on to other sources later on.

So, if you're not already on LinkedIn, what are you waiting for?

A nicer platform, but with only a few jobs

Finding alternatives to LinkedIn is really hard, it is just the dominant platform. But out of curiosity and to give you an alternative I looked around a bit and found Swissdevjobs.ch.

Swissdevjobs seems like a super nice approach to me: They offer you some filters by canton, for tech stacks and even give you a range for the salary.

The main downside which might bring you back to LinkedIn though is their limited sources of jobs. To be able to show you a salary range, they are apparently limited to companies and aggregators that can provide this. I looked for iOS / Swift jobs for example and while there were generally not too many results even for all of Switzerland, the salary ranges even for "traditional" onsite or hybrid roles seemed too low to me.

Most Swiss job platforms are a waste of your time

Sure, there is xing.com, jobs.ch and countless others. You can check them out if you want, but it won't really lead to better jobs.

Some of the ads you will find there are just copies of what you see elsewhere and many jobs are probably just mediocre or not proper tech / dev jobs. Don't undersell yourself by applying to customer support if you are a developer or similar.

If however, your partner is looking for a job outside of tech and software engineering, quite different platforms will be relevant.

If you are looking for a job that is not related to technology or software engineering, it is best to get advice from people in the industry or talk to a recruiter. They can help you find the right job for you.

The best jobs are somewhere else

Both from my own personal experience and from talking to many other expats, I can tell you that it's not so easy to find the best tech jobs in Switzerland as simply crawling a couple of websites. It requires more effort and more personalization and you need to know the market a bit to get your preferences tuned to the Swiss dev job market.

If you want the absolute best experience, check out my book "How to Move to Switzerland" where I have included a more special recommendations and which gives you a direct line to my mastermind group where you can get more personalized recommendations for your skill set, situation and tech stack. As always, the very best and particularly more senior jobs require access to the right network.

Why you should consider a tech job in Switzerland

Do you consider yourself a tech-savvy individual looking for a new adventure? Well, pack your bags and head on over to Switzerland for a tech job opportunity of a lifetime! Not only is Switzerland ranked as one of the top countries for quality of life, but it’s also a major hub for innovation and technology. The country is home to some of the biggest players in the tech industry, such as Google, IBM, and Microsoft. The perks of working in Switzerland don’t stop there though. You’ll get to enjoy breathtaking views of the Swiss Alps and let’s not forget about the amazing Swiss chocolate. So, if you’re looking to level up your tech career in a picturesque country, Switzerland is the place to be.

The alternative: working remotely for a Swiss company

But even if you aren't ready to relocate, there are still opportunities to work for Swiss companies remotely. It may just be the alternative you've been looking for if you are not (yet) ready to make a move to Switzerland! Working remotely allows you to get started without jumping through all the hoops of getting a work permit, finding a new place to live or changing bank account, health insurance and so on. Creating your own schedule more or less, giving you the freedom to enjoy your personal life without sacrificing your professional growth can be additional benefits. Plus, with the global shift towards remote work, it's becoming easier to find opportunities with international companies, even in Switzerland.

So if you're ready to break free from the traditional office grind and take advantage of all the benefits that working remotely can offer, consider exploring opportunities with Swiss companies. Who knows, it may just be the perfect fit for you!

Your partner will find a job too!

They told my partner so many times that she won't find a job in Switzerland because her skills don't match. And yes, she was talking to the wrong people. But she managed in the end and so will your partner even if they don't work in tech.

Don't give up if you are looking for a job in Switzerland, whether in technology or any other field. While it may seem difficult at first, there are a variety of resources available to help you navigate the job market and find the right opportunity for your skillset and interests.

With the right support and guidance, anyone can navigate the job market and find a fulfilling career. Seeking advice from industry professionals or working with a recruiter can be a helpful starting point, and connecting with the right network can open doors to new opportunities.

Finding a tech job in Switzerland is often hard in the beginning, but rewarding in the end

Most expats, even from the neighboring countries like Germany, find it hard in the beginning to find a job as a software developer in Switzerland. I did in the beginning.

Finding a job as a software developer in Switzerland can be difficult at first because you need to know the market and how some finer details work. You might bump into all the wrong companies in the beginning or find out that your favorite company (e.g. Google) only hires for quite different tech stacks in Switzerland than you are good at and willing to focus on. It also helps to have connections in the tech industry, so you know what kind of jobs are available and where to look for them. You might need to do some extra research or ask people who already work in Switzerland for advice.

Once you find a job, though, the rewards can be amazing. Switzerland is known for high wages and job security, which makes it an attractive destination for developers looking to start their own career or to take the next step in their professional journey. Plus, living in a country with a strong digital infrastructure means that you will have access to some of the best technology available. And if you’re looking to make a move abroad, Switzerland offers great advantages that you won’t find anywhere else.

Overall, finding a tech job in Switzerland may be difficult at first but it can be an incredibly rewarding experience if you are willing to put in some extra effort and get connected with the right people. With the tools, resources and guidance I provide in "How to Move to Switzerland" you can make this process easier and make sure you find a job that fits your skill set, tech stack and expectations perfectly – so why not give it a try?
